SORRY ABOUT THE DEMON is a new horror-comedy from Shudder with a straightforward plot that delivers precisely what you would expect. The runtime is the only thing it could have done better. A horror-comedy typically has a runtime of 1 hour and 45 minutes, which is excessive.

I thought about calling Will, the main character played by Jon Michael Simpson, a loser, but I realized this was not fair. He gives up much more frequently. He is kind and wants to please everyone, including his own need to succeed, but he moves on to a new project whenever something doesn't work out right away.

His girlfriend eventually left him because of this. She is unable to have faith that he will ever get his act together, not that there isn't love there. In addition, he does not even support her as she advances in her own career. As part of his one and only job, which he has stuck with, he is too busy taking calls at home; working in customer service for an unpopular toothpaste brand.

Will would be a perfect fit for this job because it is a fun and quirky little detail. This individual may give up on everything else, but he is aware that he must earn money while determining his true career goals. Additionally, he has no real fear of difficulties, which will soon become an essential quality.

Will suddenly finds himself in need of a new home after his girlfriend breaks up with him. However, luck intervenes when a family requires temporary housing in a large home. and at a rent that is very appealing. Naturally, there is one minor caveat: the house is haunted.

Or, to put it another way, there is a demon in the house that wants to be killed. The owners have made a deal with the demon that the demon will eat their young daughter if they can't find another human sacrifice. The family makes the sensible decision to let their house to a young man without a family, Will.

Will is confronted by the demon very early on, but things don't work out the way they should. To avoid giving away the plot of Sorry About the Demon, that's all I'll say. Will's efforts to deal with the demon in his new home and win back his ex-girlfriend dominate the remainder of the movie.

Will is unquestionably the most significant character in Sorry About the Demon, and it is fortunate that Jon Michael Simpson (Scare Package) portrays him. He portrays Will as a kind, loving man who just needs to get his act together.

Sorry About the Demon was written and directed by Emily Hagins, and we are definitely keeping an eye on her as a filmmaker. She has worked on comedy, drama, crime, romance, and a few feature films already. However, she already knows a lot about horror.

Prior to making Shudder, her two most recent writing and directing credits came from horror anthologies. She contributed to both the horror-comedy anthology Scare Package (2019) and the V/H/S series.

My one complaint, if you can even call it that, is that this horror-comedy is a little too long, as previously stated. Despite this, the delicious elements present throughout make this easy to overlook. I thoroughly enjoyed this love letter to the kitsch and campy horror-comedy hybrid.

From January 19, 2023, Sorry About the Demon will only be available for streaming on Shudder.
