A new Hulu horror anthology is BOOKS OF BLOOD. This latest horror movie consists of three strong stories that provide Clive Barker with the violent and gruesome visuals we've come to expect. Horror enthusiasts should certainly check this out, and the more visceral horror, in particular.

Like every good anthology, Books of Blood works perfectly as one complete story. It manages to produce three different stories all the while, too. These stories are about Miles (young Etienne Kellici), Jenna (Britt Robertson), and Bennett (Yul Vazquez).

One could easily argue, however, that Miles' story is all about Simon, who is played perfectly by Rafi Gavron (Homecoming season 1).

The three stories are all linked with one another, as it normally goes with every good anthology. Some in a very straightforward and direct way, while the characters from each story simply cross paths at other times. For me, all three stories worked really well, but I especially enjoyed the way the Jenna story circled back again during the actual ending.

I would also mention that I agree that Britt Robertson is an incredibly under-appreciated actor. She's always good and always manages to get a lot more out of her character than you would expect. Anna Friel also plays a crucial role in the Miles story and I enjoy seeing her on-screen. In the Netflix series Marcella, she is amazing and this new character may also be one we'll see again!

You would no doubt be wondering if there will be a Books of Blood sequel after seeing the stories in this anthology. Right now, the short response is: We don't know yet!

The much more elaborate answer: It sure looks like a sequel to Books of Blood is teasing the final scene!

In other words, it seems rather likely that if this first anthology is a success, we will hear about Books of Blood 2 soon. So, be sure to check it out as soon as possible, so we can get the news that Books of Blood 2 is in the making and has been greenlit.

Brannon Braga directed Books of Blood and also co-wrote with Adam Simon the screenplay. And, of course, the whole horror anthology is based on stories by Clive Barker, who also created it. Brannon Braga has previously directed episodes of many fictional and documentary TV shows. He also directed a music video back in 2014 for Marilyn Manson.

The TV series Salem (2014-2017) was also co-created by Brannon Braga and Adam Simon, with Braga also producing Flashforward (2009-2010). For co-writing the screenplay for The Haunting of Connecticut (2009), Adam Simon is also known. As the producer and co-writer of the 1990 film Brain Dead, starring Bill Pullman and Bill Paxton, fans of horror science fiction would best know him.

The publication of Books of Blood here in the month of Halloween, as a horror anthology, feels like great timing. For lovers of the genre, it's a true horror treat, while still hitting a very wide audience on Hulu. This is not for the faint of heart, however. After all, it is based on something from the mind of Clive Barker, which should come with a warning; Yes, there will be body horror!

Books of Blood is out on Hulu from October 7, 2020.
