The United States through its Mission in Nigeria has expressed sadness over the execution of five aid workers by Boko Haram terrorists.

In a statement by the US Mission on its website, the death of the humanitarian workers was described as a colossal loss for Nigeria and a huge setback in the fight against terrorism.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday, Boko Haram terrorists released the video showing the gruesome killing of the aid workers.

Their death came barely a month after they were abducted by their kidnappers in the northeast followed by the inability of the government to meet the $500,000 (N194million) ransom demanded by the terrorists.

The US described the humanitarian workers as brave people and hailed them for their selfless service and sacrifices.

"We are deeply saddened by the execution of five humanitarian workers by terrorists in Northeast Nigeria. This comes against a backdrop of deteriorating conditions for millions of Nigerians. These brave individuals dedicated their lives to easing human suffering.

"We hope that their families and colleagues can take comfort in their selfless sacrifices on behalf of others. We will remember their dedication to others," the statement read. Click on to read
