The US government has responded to Governor Godwin Obaseki 's victory in last Saturday's Edo State governorship election.

The services given by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, were commended in a statement released on the official Twitter account of the US Mission in Nigeria.

Obaseki and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the key challengers in the race, were also commended for encouraging peace during the elections.

The tweet reads: “Congratulations @inecnigeria and Nigerian security services on the Edo governorship election. We commend the people of Edo State for exercising their franchise and recognize @GovernorObaseki & @PastorIzeIyamu for encouraging peace.”
