The cause of the blast remains unclear; however, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio told reporters that the explosion “was an intentional act.” – But said that there were no known links to terror. It was gathered that the force of the blast blew out windows and could be heard several blocks away. Another device, reportedly a pressure cooker rigged with wires, was later found in the same district. Speaking on the incident, Neha Jain, who lives in the neighborhood, said she was sitting at home watching a movie when she heard a huge boom and everything shook. “Pictures on my wall fell, the window curtain came flying as if there was a big gush of wind,” she told Reuters. “Then we could smell smoke. We went downstairs to see what happened, and firemen immediately told us to go back.” Another local, David McKay, said New Yorkers would remain defiant. “The city’s built upon grit and whoever perpetrated this act of lunacy I would say that their message would fall on very deaf ears.” Investigators believe the blast was caused by an explosive device in or near a dumpster, a law enforcement source told CNN.
