Osinbajo - Buhari feeling Nigerians’pains
on: August 19, 2016, 06:15:36 AM

Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is feeling the current pains and sufferings that Nigerians are going through, saying this is the result of the years of mismanagement of the nation’s wealth.

Osinbajo said this during a conference organised by the South-West wing of the All Progressives Congress in Ibadan on Thursday, where it was also mandated that primary and secondary education in the region must be free and compulsory for children in the geopolitical zone.

The Vice President was represented by Senator Babafemi Ojudu at the event.

He said, “When we took over the reins of governance, we knew that things were bad. What we did not realise, however, was just how bad they really were. Now we know better. The current pains and sufferings that our people are feeling today are the results of yesterday’s mismanagement of the commonwealth of our great country

“President Buhari is only too aware of the economic hardship that our people are facing. He feels the pains that you feel, and he has asked me to reassure you that a glorious dawn awaits you. As you all may well know, the darkest part of the night is the period before dawn. Nigeria’s dawn is about to break. We are determined to turn things around, so that, once more, our people will begin to feel real impact of government in their lives.”

At the APC South-West Conference, it was also agreed that the geopolitical must be more involved in the running of government at the federal level.

The conference lecture, which had the theme, ‘The South-West and the challenges of change in Nigeria’, was delivered by Prof. Ropo Sekoni.

In a communiqué signed by the chairman of the planning committee of the event, Henry Ajomale, the conference recognised the need for diversification of the economy, saying it had become mandatory for the successful enthronement of true political and fiscal federalism with each geopolitical zone exploiting its resources for maximum development.

In his presentation, Sekoni said the South-West leaders did not make a mistake by being part of the alliance that produced the APC as a formidable party.

At the event, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State enjoined the conference to support the Buhari administration.

The meeting was attended by party chieftains including the National Deputy Chairman (South-West) of the APC, Chief Segun Oni,  Minister of Solid Minerals and Natural Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu.
