THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised applicants wishing to write the Unified Tertiary Examination (UTME) 2020 to register with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to obtain a National Identification Number (NIN).

The board said that next year's UTME registration would require the NIN.

It insisted that it would allow only applicants with NIN to sit for next year's exam.

JAMB said it would no longer capture candidates ' biometrics as the board's necessary information would be downloaded for registration from the data recorded by the NIMC.

In an interview on Wednesday in Abuja, its Information Head, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, clarified the board's stance on NIN. He said: "The National Identification Number (NIN) for UTME registration would be mandatory from now on.

"All candidates wishing to register for the 2020 UTME, other JAMB processes, are urged, if they have not done so, to visit the nearest NIMC center or its licensed NIN registration agents before the UTME registration." Dr. Benjamin stressed that candidates would be required to submit their NIN at the registration point.

He said the board had arranged with NIMC for candidates not having the NIN to be registered by NIMC or its licensed agents at the center.

Before reaching the age of 16, the JAMB spokesman recommended applicants who had registered and obtained the NIN to update their NIN registration status before proceeding with the UTME registration.

"If a candidate has NIN but has misplaced the amount, the NIN can be retrieved either by going to any NIMC office or by dialing* 346 #(USSD Code) on the SIM amount previously used to register for the NIN and the NIN will be sent to the candidate.

"If the SIM number used for NIN registration is not available, such a candidate should visit the nearest NIMC center or any of its licensed agents.

"The name of the candidate would be the same on JAMB data after registration as arranged on the NIMC database." If any candidate has a name arrangement complaint, such a candidate should first rectify this problem with NIMC before proceeding to register, "he added.
