FAREWELL ADDRESS DELIVERED BY THE CHAIRMAN, OSUN ONLINE PUBLISHERS ASSOCIATION (OOPA), MUKHTAR AJELOGBON (2024 - 2026) TODAY THURSDAY 26TH OF MARCH 2026 AT OOPA SECRETARIAT, OSOGBO, OSUN STATE

It is with great honour and a deep sense of responsibility that I stand here today after I served as the fourth elected Chairman of the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA).
Today marks the end of a two-year tenure of a "TEAM WORK AGENDA" alongside the entire members of the executive after a meritorious service under my leadership

Within two years in the saddle, the leadership of OOPA under my watch has recorded some notable achievements such as;

1. Periodical training/workshops for Members in capacity building and Artificial Intelligence (AI) on digital media
2. Securing a secretariat for the association in Osogbo (including nine plastic chairs, two tables, three standing fans, three electric extension boxes, and office cortains)
3. Opening of the association's Bank Account
4. Improved Members Welfare by partnering/securing advertisement for all members.
5. Opening of the association official website (www.osunonlinepublishers.org.ng)
6. Appointment of Matron for the association, in person of Chief Mrs Funmi Abokede who is the General Manager of Osun CSDA)
7. Increase In membership strength by absorbing new members in line with the constitution of the association. (We've increased from 16 to 21)
8. Distribution of powerbank to all members to supplement erratic power supply and to boost members morale

While thanking almighty Allah for His guidance and protection in the last 24 months. I specially appreciate the support of my executive members, from my Vice - Comrade Brigh Olorungbotemi; General Secretary - Mr Idowu Akintunde; Treasurer - Mr Fatai Akanji; PRO - Mr Idowu Yusuf and the Assistant Secretary - Mr  Babatunde Adeleke.

It is highly important to acknowledge the support of our Patron, Oba (Dr) Adekunle Oyelude Makama (CON), Olowu of Owu-Kuta kingdom for playing a fatherly role and always in support of all our programmes and ideas to move the association forward. While acknowledging our Matron, Mrs Funmi Abokede, Osun CSDA General Manager who always offers support for the smooth running of the association's affairs, I must also acknowledge the support of Asiwaju Ayobami Agboola CityMirror, Baba Idowu Akintunde, Mrs Aminat Ajibola Amiloded and Late Adesoji Omosebi SOJ of blessed memory for their moral support throughout my tenure.

I must commend the Planning Committee, ably led by Late Mr. Adesoji Omosebi, and supported by all members, for their tireless dedication to ensuring the success of this event. I also thank all the executive members, without their support, all ideas would not be successful.

While acknowledging my predecessors including Mr Jare Tiamiyu for laying a good foundation for the association, I also appreciate all the standing committee Chairmen and their members; from the Media Parley/Workshop Committee led by Mr Ismail Kolapo to Membership committee led by Comrade Bright Olorungbotemi and the Digital Media Week committee and all members of the association for standing by this administration.
I must also appreciate my lovely wife for allowing and managing a journalist like me as a husband, and for supporting me in the journey of leading this association.

Conclusively, it is a known fact that the future of journalism is 'digital media', hence, members of the Osun Online Publishers Association (OOPA) need to prioritise the growth of our platforms, improve ourselves professionally and offer genuine support towards one another against the external forces (a house divided cannot stand on its own). With this, we shall be the cornerstone for every other aspect in the media. Truly, we're the future of journalism, and the future is now.
