After 9 Months Of Interview For Applicants, Osun Schools Still Suffer Shortage of Teachers.
By Voice Air Media (VAM)
Going by the popular quote, "Education is the best legacy" reflects the idea that investing in knowledge and skills empowers individuals and fosters a more prosperous and informed society but reverse is the case in Osun state.
You will recall that an interview was conducted for the qualified applicants on Monday 9th to Friday 13th September, 2024, it has now become a season film without results for the past nine months, on this day, June 9, 2025.
On February 16, 2024, the Osun State Government under the leadership of Senator Ademola Adeleke approved the immediate recruitment of Five Thousand (5,000) teachers for both Primary and Secondary Schools and Two Hundred and Fifty (250) education officers in the State.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, on July 31, 2024 said that the 5,000 teachers will be on ground when schools resume for the next academic session this month.
The recruitment process involved the sale of application forms for the sum of Two Thousand Naira (N2,000.00), thirty-two thousand (32,000) applicants registered for the exercise.
The State Government realized a whopping sum of N64,000,000 (Sixty Four Million Naira Only) from the sales of the forms.
Twenty-nine thousand (29,000) applicants accessed the internet for the examination, while Twenty-Seven thousand (27,000) applicants sat for the examination.
It should be noted that the exercise lasted for two weeks, specifically from February 16 to February 30, 2024, and Thirty-Two Thousand (32,000) applicants applied in just two weeks, which points to the alarming rate of unemployment in the state.
You will also recall that in November 27, 2022, Governor Adeleke sacked 1,500 teachers recruited by his predecessor, Adegboyega Oyetola, for alleged lack of due process, and he promised to recruit more teachers as soon as possible.
While monitoring a radio program on Monday 28th April, 2025, tagged "Oro Oselu", the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Adejoorin Mayowa, while responding to questions on Teachers recruitment said, "very soon the State Government will employ the successful applicants".
