Residents are worried that armed men are attacking the jail facility. Joshua Friday, a local, told our reporter that the shootings had been going on for the previous 20 minutes. He claimed that the incident has sparked panic in the neighborhood. He stated, "The firing has been ongoing for approximately 20 minutes at this time in Kuje. I'm not sure what's going on—whether it's a heist or not—but there have been frequent reports of gunfire in the vicinity of the prison. All of us are afraid as I speak to you. Umar Abubakar, a spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service, requested a callback from our correspondent when reached. Calls to Josephine Adeh, the police spokesperson for the FCT, were unanswered, making attempts to reach her fruitless. Messages sent to her have likewise gone unanswered.
