South African police authorities have arrested a female suspect in connection with the brutal killing of a Nigerian e-hailing driver in Pretoria West, marking a major development in a case that has sparked outrage among Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
The Gauteng Police Command confirmed the arrest following investigations into the violent hijacking and murder of the driver, identified in earlier reports as 22-year-old Nigerian national, Isaac Satlat, who was attacked while on duty.
According to police authorities, the incident occurred on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, when the victim was allegedly assaulted inside his vehicle after picking up passengers who had requested an e-hailing ride.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver was targeted by a male and female pair who reportedly hijacked the vehicle during the trip. The victim’s body and the stolen car were later discovered in Atteridgeville the same day.
Police said a disturbing video circulating on social media showed a person being attacked while seated behind the steering wheel of a vehicle.
Authorities condemned the circulation of the footage, describing it as deeply disturbing and urging members of the public not to share or repost it.
“The police strongly condemn the circulation of the video that depicts what appears to be a gruesome murder of the victim,” the Gauteng police said in a statement, adding that social media users should refrain from forwarding the clip.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, has reportedly assigned a senior detective to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure all suspects are arrested and prosecuted.

Investigators are currently reviewing dashcam footage and witness accounts as part of efforts to reconstruct the events leading to the killing.
Police confirmed that the arrested female suspect is expected to appear before the Atteridgeville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, February 16, 2026, where she will face charges including hijacking and murder.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for a second suspect believed to have participated in the attack. Authorities urged anyone with information that could assist in locating the fleeing suspect to contact the nearest police station or CrimeStop.
The arrest follows widespread anger after earlier reports revealed that the young Nigerian driver was killed during a violent hijacking captured on a dashboard camera.
The killing triggered renewed fears over the safety of Nigerian migrants and other African foreign nationals working in South Africa’s gig economy, particularly e-hailing drivers who often operate in high-risk environments.
The incident has once again drawn attention to recurring violent crimes affecting migrants in South Africa, where foreign workers have repeatedly raised concerns about robberies, xenophobic attacks and targeted violence.
