A member of the youth vigilante group, Kaka Yusuf, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone, confirmed the incident. Yusuf said the two suicide bombers were unsuccessful in their dastardly action as they only succeeded in blowing themselves into pieces and in the process injuring two people. Molai is 10 kilometres south of Maiduguri where the Vice President visited on Wednesday to check on the IDPs in the town. Maiduguri has about 1.5 million persons, in 22 camps, made homeless by the Boko Haram insurgency. He said the suicide bombers were suspected to have sneaked into Molai from Sambisa Forest, the notorious base of the insurgents that has been under military siege for some time now. Yusuf said on Wednesday that the two suicide bombers, a female and a male, were blown apart, apparently in an accidental detonation of explosives strapped on their bodies. He said: “It must have been an accidental detonation as no known persons or structures were targeted by the suicide bombers. “The explosion occurred at about 11am close to Molai Leprosy/General Hospital and about 100 metres away from a locally established market. It left both suicide bombers dead with two innocent people injured. Many residents including patients on admission at the hospital were left scampering for safety.” Yusuf said the first suicide bomber (a female) detonated the explosive strapped on him at the entrance/gate of the hospital injuring two passersby, while the other one, who was riding on a bicycle, accidentally detonated his explosives at the back of the hospital before reaching the fence at the backyard, killing himself only.
