A standoff is currently taking place in Abuja's Mpape between a group of armed robbers, the police and the Nigerian Army after a first-generation bank was attacked by the hoodlums.

It was said that the armed robbers raided the bank, sporadically shooting into the air to scare people away.

They were said to have been able to enter the banking hall. The police and the army arrived on the scene shortly after gaining access, but the robbers refused to come out of the bank. The Federal Capital Territory Police (FCT) killed one and arrested four suspects who tried to rob a first-generation bank in Abuja's satellite town, the Mpape.

The robbers, who broke into the bank on Saturday about 10 a.m., met with resistance from the police, the army, and the State Security Department, who cordoned the site minutes after responding to a distress call.

According to the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Mariam Yusuf, four of the robbers have been arrested while one was killed in an exchange of gunfire with the Police.

The police spokesperson said the situation has been brought under control as a joint security team have maintained sanity in the area

The thieves were trapped inside the bank for over four hours.
