● Osun Police Arrest 24 Suspected Cultists, Political Thugs Ahead of 2026 Governorship Election.
Ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, the Osun State Police Command has announced the arrest of 24 alleged cults and political thugs as part of stepped-up efforts to improve security and restore public order.
CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips, the Commissioner of Police, stated during a press briefing on Monday that the Command is still dedicated to combating political thuggery, cult-related violence, and other criminal acts endangering the state's peace.
The Police Commissioner praised members of the media and other stakeholders for their support and collaboration in the fight against crime and criminalities in the State.
According to him, the briefing is to keep the public adequately informed of the Command’s sustained efforts to combat cultism, political thuggery, and other violent crimes across the State.

CP Gotan noted that the Command is fully aware of recent cult-related killings and acts of thuggery that have generated public concern, with some incidents attracting political interpretations.
He disclosed that intelligence-led operations and strategic deployments led to the arrest of 24 suspects allegedly connected with the criminal activities.
The suspects arrested are:

The Commissioner reiterated the Command's determination to rid Osun State of criminal elements and ensure a peaceful atmosphere before, during, and after the forthcoming governorship election.

He warned cultists, political thugs, and other individuals involved in criminal activities to desist from acts capable of disrupting public peace or face the full weight of the law.
He further assures law-abiding residents of Osun State that, the Command under his watch will continue to prioritize their safety and at the same time seeking for more support and cooperation, while he promise to remains professional, neutral, and non-partisan in the discharge of his constitutional responsibilities and continue to uphold the rule of law without fear or favour.
