James Gwin, a U.S. District Judge, imposed a prison term of more than three years on Adeleke. The 31-year-old was found guilty of conspiring to steal financial information, making bogus purchases of gift cards and retail goods, and stealing money from bank accounts in Northern Ohio and elsewhere. In October 2022, a jury found Adeleke guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud and 16 counts of bank fraud after he was arrested in Ghana in March 2022. Adeleke was the administrator of an online marketplace where compromised data, such as credit card numbers and personally identifiable information (PII), were sold from January 2014 to October 2016. Adeleke bought things for herself and others with stolen credit card information, including Kylie Ann Harlow, a co-defendant. According to court documents, Adeleke and Harlow shipped goods purchased with victims' money and sometimes returned the goods and gift cards for cash. Adeleke sent 16 bogus checks from at least one victim's Pepper Pike, Ohio, bank account after gaining access to it. After pleading guilty to her role in the scheme that was investigated by the Cleveland FBI and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Brian Deckert and Daniel Riedl, Harlow received her sentence in June 2021. The Ghanian Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, and the Office of the Attorney General were acknowledged by the U.S. Department of Justice for facilitating Adeleke's extradition. The U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI Legal Attaché in Accra also contributed significantly to the convict's repatriation.
